Week 3 Post

Week 3--Give examples of the different types of software (drill and practice, tutorial, simulation, instructional games, problem solving, and integrated learning systems) that you could use in your classroom. Be specific and mention actually software and describe how you would use them in the classroom

In my classroom, I use DiscoveryEducation.com for drill and practice. Students can take quizes and complete assignments created by me through this website. I also use Compass Odessey for drill and practice and tutorial. Our school also has Reading Assistant. This is a reading computer program designed to improve fluency and comprehension.
As a reward, I allow my students to play instructional games on Starfall.com, Spelling City, and Fun Brain. My students love getting to play these games, and they are learning at the same time!

  1. What is Reading Assistant? I would love a program that helps fluency and comprehension. I work with a lot of Special Education students that struggle in both area.

  2. After reading your post, I've decided that I will implement DiscoveryEducation.com in my classroom for drill and practice. I like the idea that students can take quizzes and complete assignments created by the teacher. Individualizing the exercises will be beneficial for each student. Great comment!
