Week Five
Two of my favorite Web 2.0 sites are Facebook and YouTube. Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with my friend from college. I can also post picture of my little boy for my friends and family to see. I also enjoy watching videos for entertainment and for educational purposes. In the past, I used YouTube in my classroom and showed instructional videos. Now, our school has Youtube blocked so I use Teacher Tube instead. Teacher Tube provides hundreds of educational videos to use in the classroom. My kids love watching them, and I think they are a great teaching tool.

Week 4 Post
One type of multimedia that I use in my classroom is interactive books. There are several websites that have free interactive books, and my students love them! A great website for interactive books is http://pbskids.org/. I also use an instructional program called Reading Assistant. This is an online reading program that is research-based. It reads a story to the student, and then the student reads the story again and answers questions. After that, the student records a reading of the story and the program times how many words per minute that the student reads. My students love this program, and I can already see improvement in their reading!

Week 3 Post
Week 3--Give examples of the different types of software (drill and practice, tutorial, simulation, instructional games, problem solving, and integrated learning systems) that you could use in your classroom. Be specific and mention actually software and describe how you would use them in the classroom
In my classroom, I use DiscoveryEducation.com for drill and practice. Students can take quizes and complete assignments created by me through this website. I also use Compass Odessey for drill and practice and tutorial. Our school also has Reading Assistant. This is a reading computer program designed to improve fluency and comprehension.
As a reward, I allow my students to play instructional games on Starfall.com, Spelling City, and Fun Brain. My students love getting to play these games, and they are learning at the same time!

Week 2 Post 2
Two issues shaping the role of technology in education are the standards movement and reliance on internet and distance education. The standards movement requires that students are advanced or proficient on state tests. Because of the pressure of testing, teachers are looking for every possible way to raise test scores. The standards movement may lead to teachers using technology to raise test scores. At my school, we are already using Reading Assistant, a computer-based reading program, to help our struggling readers and improve test scores. Internet and distance learning also shapes the role of technology in education. Distance learning is becoming extremely popular in high school and college. However, many students can handle online course and dropout.
One issue that remains a problem in educational technology is the Digital Divide. Although more and more children are being exposed to technology at an early age, children from low-income families are not getting this exposure. They also do not have access to much technology after school

About Me
Hey! My name is Kelly, and I live in Meridian, MS. I am currently teaching third grade language arts. I graduated from Mississippi State University in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I will graduate from UWA with my Master's degree in elementary education this summer. I have a two year old who takes up the majority of my time. He is my heart, and I don't know what I would do without him!
I don't know what I would do without technology in my classroom. The piece of technology that I use the most in my classroom is my ELMO. For anyone who doesn't know, an ELMO has a camera on it and projects what you put in front of it onto your white board. With that said, I also have a projector and my own laptop! I use all of these on a daily basis. My students love playing games on Powerpoint or online! I am always using some form of technology in my classroom!
